Brian’s interest in the stock market started as a 14 year old in 1979, when the British Columbia government assembled a group of troubled resource companies into one company and then issued 5 free shares of B.C. Resources Investment Corporation to every British Columbian. Following the price movements of these shares served to spark a life-long interest in the capital markets.
In 1983 Brian became a board marker on the trade floor of the Vancouver Stock Exchange (VSE) and eight months later at the age of eighteen was the youngest floor trader ever on the VSE.
Two years of exposure to Canada’s venture stock market was plenty, and he attended the University of Western Ontario for a BA in Politics and Economics, with summers spent on an investment firm’s equity trading desk, and upon the Floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE).
In 1989 Brian joined a TSE member firm McConnell and Co., and then in 1990 joined Richardson Greenshields of Canada as a private client investment advisor in Ottawa.
Brian is a licensed Portfolio Manager in both Canada and the United States. He is licensed to trade options and derivatives and has earned his Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
Brian has resided in Ottawa for 30 plus years, and much of his free time is spent hanging out at Oat Couture Oatmeal Café, and Montgomery Scotch Lounge, local businesses started by Brian and managed by his General Manager.
Brian is also heavily involved in community recreation and various charitable endeavours, as outlined in the Our Team/Our Community section of our website
